Philosophy
We acknowledge that Fairy Kingdom Childcare Centre is situated on Darug and Eora people’s land.
We pay our respects to the Darug and Eora people past and present.
In relation to children;
· Foster a positive self-esteem and self-concept.
· Get to know each child as a unique individual.
· Have a holistic understanding of each child.
· Provide educational experiences to enable the child to develop to their fullest potential at their own pace appropriate for them.
· Provide for children with additional needs and accommodate each child as an individual.
· Provide the opportunity for siblings to be together as little or as much as they like.
· To encourage children’s sense of well-being.
· To assist in the transition to and preparation for primary school.
· Be consistent with staff days, to ensure stability and continuity of care for the children and their families.
· Ensure reasonable precautions and adequate supervision is used to protect children from harm and hazard, at all times (Child Safe Standards ECE).
· We provide a culturally safe place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and children from culturally diverse backgrounds can share their stories about history and culture (EYLF, V2.0)
· We appreciate the importance of the present day in our children’s lives, learning about themselves in a holistic manner, building and maintaining relationships, and enjoying life (being).
· By addressing our children’s attachment, emotional, and behavioral needs we are promoting their abilities to develop and maintain a positive and trusting community (belonging).
· Children learn best through play and educators will support development by providing experiences that are meaningful. Children are given the opportunity to choose their own experiences that, most importantly, reflect their interests. For example, the child’s knowledge is valued and can be used as a tool for enhancing the knowledge of others (becoming).
In relation to families;
We believe parents, carers and families are the first significant and constant caregivers in children’s lives and that invaluable
family-to-educator relationships will allow us to collaboratively work together to promote positive early years education and care by:
· Supporting parents in their role.
· Encouraging the ongoing exchange of information in a respectful manner.
· Welcoming family participation, input and voices into our programs and practices.
· Providing parents/carers with information relating to other services available to them within the community.
· Recognise them as the primary caregivers of their child, and who know their child best.
· Foster a positive relationship that is based on trust, respect and open communication.
· Strengthen the link between home life, experience and the centre.
· Build partnerships with families that will in turn benefit their child and make the time they spend with us memorable and positive.
· Provide accessible, affordable and flexible child care.
· Respect cultural diversity and the needs of different cultures, skills and beliefs.
· Encourage active participation and input into all aspects of the centre.
· Provide them with information on their child’s development through a variety of ways. For example; meetings, family stories sharing, weekly communication letters, policy comments, surveys and emails.
· Provide an open, supportive and non-judgmental environment. · We believe that partnerships with families are beneficial to their children’s success at the centre.
· Therefore, we endeavour to create sound and reciprocal relationships with our parents and the wider community (belonging).

In relation to Environment;
· By encouraging children to positively contribute to creating eco-friendly (natural surroundings) and sustainable (vegetable gardens, recycling, saving energy and water) environments we are developing active environmental ambassadors who are appreciative and exhibit an awareness of our environment and the wider community for future generations (being).
· Our educators and staff recognise the importance of providing a safe, secure, homelike and consistent environment that supports trust and familiarity as well as active exploration of learning. We believe that our centre is an extension of our children’s home environments by establishing a calm, friendly and positive atmosphere where children take ownership and are active participants in respecting themselves, each other and our resources (belonging).
· Our learning centres provide our children the opportunity to revisit experiences, refining, reinforcing and challenging their abilities (becoming).
